Love is in the air….

A few years ago, I had received a greeting card from an unknown admirer (?) on the occasion of Valentine Day. It had expressed the sender’s feelings quite aptly through a short, sweet and a simple poem, which I had liked a lot.Today I reciprocate my feelings towards that secret admirer by translating that cute little poem into Hindi.I hope the essence of the original poem is not lost in translation.
E…n..j…o….y….!!

1.
I wish you were my Valentine !
Kaash aap hamari Valentine hotee !

Though I may not be yours !
Chahey humm aapkey koi naan hotey !

And I may, in my ignorance,
Aur shayad, sirf anjaaney mein humm

Be speaking to closed doors.
Bandd darwaazon sey hee mukhatib hotey !

2.
I have no inkling of your heart,
Hummein malloom nahin aapkey dill ki haalat,

No hint of what you might say;
Naan hi jaantey hain ki aap kya kahengey;

But when I think of you as my sun
Lekin itna samajh lijiye aye jaan-e-jaana

Its warmth will just not go away.
Aapki yaadon ki tapish, apney saath harr pall rakhengey !

3.
There is in you a loveliness
Aap mein woh khoobsoorti hai priyey

That makes my darkness shine,
Hummarey andheron ko jo roshan hai kartee

And so I’ll wait, if wait I must,
Issi liyey yeh ummeed rakhengey umarr bharr

To be your Valentine.
Ki kabhi tau aap hamari valentine banengee !

Dear Brocaji, My congrats to your secret lady on her apt choice and on her lovely lines. Coming to your second stanza, have you translated the simile “as my sun,” my teensy knowledge of Hindi puzzles me. May you be serenaded and surrounded by many more like her! Love and regards.

Wah-Wah Broca Sahib, “Tussi Great Ho!” Kya pyaar ka izhaar kiya hai. Bahut khoob. Your poem reminded me of a sad verse –

“Barson baad na jaane kaun kahaan hoga,
hum dono me se na jaane kaun kahaan hoga,
phir milna hua to milenge khwabo mein,
jaise sukhe gulab milte hain kitabo mein”

BTW, Happy Valentine’s Day in advance!!!

Dear Bharat ji, thanks a lot for your “shyrana jawab” to my posting. In reply I request you to enjoy the famous sad song-one of my favourites,on Youtube by clicking on or going to the following link:

The song which begins as :”WAQT KARTA JO WAFA AAP HUMARE HOTE HUM BHI AURON KI TARHA AAP KO PYAARE HOTE….” is from 1967 movie titled :” Dil Ney Pukara” sung by Mukesh, lyrics by Indeevar and music by Kalyanji Anandji.

Aap ko aur “unko” mera jawab mill jayega !

Dear Atreya ji,thanks for appreciating the piece. At this stage, I am happy to be with my one and only one soulmate for last 33 years- my better half ( I am the “worse” half !).If wishes were horses, beggars would ride ! I have taken a liberty or used poetic licence while translating some words from English to Hindi, so as to keep the rhyming in tact ! A HAPPY VALENTINE DAY TO YOU AS WELL !

Dear Mamtaji, thanks a lot for your valuable response.YES spring seems to have something to do with this.I am reminded of an old number from Hindi movie :”Julie” sung by Preeti Sagar : “My heart is beating….” One stanza is about spring ! It goes like this :

    Spring is the season
That drops the reason of lovers who are truly true
    Young birds are mating
While I am waiting, waiting for you
Darling you haunt me, say do you want me
And if it is so, when are we meeting
    Cause love you know
That time is fleeting, time is fleeting
    Time is fleeting
My heart is beating, keeps on repeating
    I’ m waiting for you !

    sat sri akal sirji.
the poem dedicated to you is awesome and by translating it into hindi you have justified it by keeping it as sweet as it was in the original.
being inspired by you,i would also like to share some lines that i have written on my social networking account :”a sweet relationship is that which makes ur’s and other’s life sweeter so stop taking sugar.start taking dosages of love.” “happy valentines day to all.” :). i hope you would like my small attempt to write something.
1 more .”woh thhey nazaron ke samney humarey, par hum unhey jee bhar ke dhek bhi na paaye, maana khuda ki shayad teri yahi marzi ho ,,,par ab hum is dil ko kaisey samjhayein” !
(he was just next 2 me,but bcz of public i even dnt attempt to look at him except 4 few seconds,i accept that ! oh god without ur blessings nothing can be done. may be you might want that he should not be anything in my future life,,but as i m thinking of him,how should i console my heart for not thinking about him,,because i m not god, so cant see future with my 3 rd eye/6 th sense).thank you sirji.sat sri akal sirji.happy valentine’s day to you 🙂
