VAISAKH

VAISAKH.

The following spiritual message from Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji for the month of Vaisakh is from the composition called ” Bara Maha Manjh“,which is Guru Arjun’s ‘calendar’ poem in the ‘measure’ “Majh” included in the Shri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS pages 133-136).

The first line is the original text in “Gurmukhi”.

The second line is its approximate pronunciation given in English (by me) to help those who do not know Gurmukhi.

The third line gives its meaning in simple terms.

Vaisakh dheeran kyo vaadiha, jinna prem vichchoh .

In the month of Vaisaakh, how can the bride be patient? She is separated from her Beloved.

Har saajan purakh vissar key laggi maaya dhoh.

She has forgotten the Lord, her Life-companion, her Master; she has become attached to Maya, the deceitful one.

Putra kalatra na sang dhana har awinaasi auh.

Neither son, nor spouse, nor wealth shall go along with you-only the Eternal Lord.

Palach palach sagli mooyi jhoothey dhandey moh .

Entangled and enmeshed in the love of false occupations, the whole world is perishing.

Ikkas har key naam binn aggey layiey khoh .

Without the Naam, the Name of the One Lord, they lose their lives in the hereafter.

Daye vissar viguchna prabh bin awar nah koye.

Forgetting the Merciful Lord, they are ruined. Without God, there is no other at all.

Preetam charni jau laggey tin kee nirmal soye .

Pure is the reputation of those who are attached to the Feet of the Beloved Lord.

Nanak kee prabh benatee prabh milau prapat hoi.

Nanak makes this prayer to God: “Please, come and unite me with Yourself”.

Vaisakh suhaava taan laggey jaan santt bhetey har soye .

The month of Vaisaakh is beautiful and pleasant, when the Saint causes me to meet the Lord. ||3||

I hope and pray for the well being of all my relatives & friends.

May the month of Vaisakh unite us all with GOD.
